I Screenshot Everything: How to Find Old Screenshots on iPhone
By Roman Resenchuk,
Here is how to find old screenshots on iPhone: install CloudShots, let it give each screenshot a Smart name on your device, then type a word you remember from the picture. Search reads the text inside every screenshot on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Smart names need Apple Intelligence.
CloudShots is a screenshot app for iPhone, iPad and Mac that reads, names and syncs your screenshots, and I build it on weekends. The video above is the habit most of us share: you screenshot everything, then you can never find any of it.
Why screenshots get lost
A screenshot is the fastest way to keep something. A map pin, a recipe, a film someone recommended, a cafe Wi-Fi password. It takes a second, so you take dozens a week. The system names each one by the moment it was taken, and you almost never remember the moment. You remember what was on it.
So the pile grows, every thumbnail looks like the next one, and the screenshot you need is somewhere in the middle. Scrolling is slow, and the filename tells you nothing.
How to find old screenshots on iPhone, step by step
- Install CloudShots on your iPhone and give it Full Access to Photos, so it can read your Screenshots album.
- Turn on Apple Intelligence in Settings if your iPhone supports it. Smart names need it.
- Keep taking screenshots as usual. CloudShots reads each one in the background and gives it a Smart name, such as the name of the recipe or the cafe.
- When you need one, open the search field and type a word you remember from the picture.
- Open the result. The match is highlighted in the image.
The search guide goes deeper into how text search works.
What Smart names change
A Smart name puts what you remember into the list itself. A map pin is named like a place, a recipe like a dish, a watchlist like a watchlist. While you scroll, the right screenshot stands out before you even search.
Search covers the rest. Some screenshots are full of text you only half remember, like a long recipe or a Wi-Fi note. You type one word and CloudShots finds every screenshot where that word appears in the image, not only in its name.
A week of screenshots, before and after
Think about the screenshots from one ordinary week. On Monday you saved a map pin for a picnic spot a friend sent. On Tuesday, a recipe for curry noodles from a video you will never find again. On Wednesday, a list of films to watch. On Thursday, the Wi-Fi password at the cafe where you work on Fridays.
Before, each of those became a thumbnail named by a date and a number. By Friday, the Wi-Fi password was buried under twenty other screenshots, and you were asking the barista again.
With CloudShots, each one arrives in the feed with a name that says what it is. The Wi-Fi note is named like a Wi-Fi note. If the name is not enough, you type the cafe's name or the word password, and the screenshot opens with the match highlighted. Nothing was filed by hand and nothing was renamed by hand.
Tips for a screenshot library you can search
- Keep taking screenshots the way you already do. CloudShots works from your Screenshots album, so there is no new habit to learn.
- Search for the rarest word you remember. A dish name or a street name finds a screenshot faster than a common word like menu.
- Open a screenshot to see the recognized text under it, and copy a password or an address straight from there.
- Use the same iCloud account on your Mac and iPad, and the same library is there too.
Where the AI runs
The AI runs on my iPhone. Smart names are written by Apple's on-device model, and no CloudShots server takes part in that step. Your screenshots stay in your private iCloud, and the iCloud screenshot manager page explains how they stay in step across your iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Does the AI send my screenshots to a server?
